Every late summer wildfire season is on the minds of all western dwellers. If a wildfire isn't in the Lolo National Forest, smoke from states away can blow into the valleys around Missoula MT and stay for weeks. Though there are some benefits to us fisherman. It can act as cloud cover and smooth over daily temperature spikes that are common during wildfire season. Those spikes above 70 deg F make for less-than-ideal trout survival and therefore our fishing conditions as well.

Secondarily, it gives a ghostly haze to the Mission Mountain range in the background of this photo.
