Little Feat
This picture was taken from a moving skiff as we pass under this sailing flamingo in the vast Florida Everglades. Flamingos were native to Florida but disappeared from the state around the turn of the 20th century. They aren't considered migratory species but can travel far distances in search of needed resources. People started captive colonies of flamingos in South Florida, but research suggests that at least some American flamingos in Florida have arrived on their own from outside of the state. Most of the Florida population lives in the Everglades, Biscayne Bay and the Florida Keys.
