My upcountry trip this summer in the wild public lands of Wyoming taught me a lot about the relationship between a packer and his staff. Everyone has their place and duty to the team. In this case your staff is an animal which takes an experience packer to know what jobs is best for each pony. Packers have a special talent for picking up on what seem like non-visual cues to the untrained eye that determine how he leads his team. Packing is become a lost art in many cases but luckily there are still roadless public lands that require the special relationship between man and pony.
